Ford Repair: 2005 3valve 5.4 - mis fire problem, ash tray, fire problem

Question
truck misfires. when i say misfire, runs like there is water in the gas - it bucks and shakes change out of the ash tray. happened under 2 conditions hard (w.o.t) acceleration once is above 30 mph (2nd 3rd gear), the other time it will mis is in OD doing 50 mph + and working (for example going up a hill) if you keep throttling the mis gets worse and worse until it downshifts then the mis goes away. if you punch it i takes off then starts to mis fire again.

here is what i have done. i replaced the plug boots and spark plugs - problem went away for about 2000 miles, now its back but only about 1/3 as severe as before. i think its the coils? i used a snap-on scanner to check the truck. everything tested out okay. when i did a flight recorder option, i was definitely getting mis's but it does not say which cylinder. way back about 7000 miles ago when it started happening i was getting a CEL, when scanned it would say random misfire detected.

Answer
Hello Darcy, Does sound like a coil(s) failing. You'll have to find out which cylinder it is to correct it. But I think you are on the right track. Hope this helps Thanks Tony
Hello again Darcy, You are going to have to be able to a diagostic performed to obsolete the cylinder(s) causing the problem. My repair shop can perform a diag to trap readings
that is what you need to see which ones Thanks Tony
