Ford Repair: 98 Ford Explorer, spark plug wires, explorer question

Question
QUESTION: My 98 Explorer is running rough.  The check engine light stays on and blinks when the engine is working hard.  Mechanic said #5 cylinder is not doing anything.  He says with a stethoscope he can hear that injector is clicking, so thinks it may be a valve? or something deeper in the engine.  #2 and #3 cylinders also misfire randomly.  He said if he replaced injectors, it could still have the same problem.  What should I do?

ANSWER: Hello Tom, What does he mean #5 is not doing anything ? Does it have compression ? How does the plug look ? Has the spark plug wires been changed ? Let me know so I can possibly help. Thanks Tony

QUESTION: Spark plugs are fine.  He thinks there's 100% clog(?) in the 5th fuel injector.  #3 wasn't working for awhile and now it's 2nd and 3rd that both act up sometimes.  I don't know if he checked compression.  I talked to someone else that said they could flush all injectors for $100.00.  If it isn't the injectors(could be?) then what could it be?  Should I flush all the injectors?

Thanks Tony

Answer
Hello Tom, If there truly is a restriction on the injector cleaning will probity not help, but you could try cleaning them first. You can  pull the injectors and look at the tips for carbon deposits also. Its not very often you see a injector go bad. Do they have a way to watch cylinder balance or injector pulse ? This would give a better idea on a better injector. Hope this helps Thanks Tony
