Ford Repair: 1999 Ford Taurus front coil springs, monroe struts, rust area

Question
We recently purchased a 1999 Ford Taurus for our 16 year old grandson.  We discovered the recall on the front springs had not been done.  When he took it in to the Ford dealer they discovered the front struts had been replaced with Monroe struts and the recall could not be done with the spring shield.  They could only suggest we replace the struts with
Ford parts and then have the shield installed.  We just replaced the rear springs and struts.  We are concerned about our grandson's safety and are wondering if there is some cheaper way to make these front springs safe.  Can they be replaced with other springs other than Ford's?  The mechanic who repaired the rear springs said the front ones look good now. The car has 114,000 miles on it.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Beverly,
You don't even need this recall if the springs are not rusted. If your mechanic said they look OK and not rusted, I wouldn.t worry about it. If you live in a high rust area, you can replace just the front springs. If you have any further questions E-mail me at: Jeffe94604@aol.com
