Ford Repair: 5.0 Mustang rear end., stainless pipes, high hope

Question
Hi: i have a 5.0 1984 G T 5 speed mustang with a 7.5 rear end..(i thought it was the 8.8).(I would rather have it)
What gears should i put in my rear end.
I have upgraded to duel stainless pipes, and a new 600 holley.   please tell me what you think,   Thanks Bill

Answer
Bill-

Well first of all I'd ditch the 7.5" rear and go for an 8.8" setup.  It's pretty much a direct swap if you swipe the 8.8" rear from a '87-'93 Mustang.  The 7.5" is ok, but you'd be surprised how weak they become, especially behind some extra power.  But either way, 7.5" or 8.8", I'd go with either a 3.55 or 3.73 gear for use in a 5 speed car.  If your car will see mostly strip duty then you could go with a 4.10 gear, but those would make first gear pretty useless on the street and your cruising rpms would be pretty high.  Hope this helps.
