Ford Repair: mustang engine swap, street avenger, mustang engine

Question
hey steve, i own an 86 mustang gt with 3.73 gears, underdrive pulleys, bbk shorty headers and i've been having problems with it pretty often and i really like the car but i'm tired of messing with fuel injection and sensors so i bought a stock 82 gt to do an engine swap hoping i could still use the headers and pulleys also wondering if a 650 carb would be best and what cam would go best with it i hope i'm not going in the wrong direction i hope to hear good news thanks.

It's a pretty straightforward swap.  Everything will swap from one motor to the other.  Aside from the intakes method (EFI vs. carb) they're essentially the same engine.  On a motor that's stock or close to it like yours will be a 650cfm carb is probably a bit on the big side.  It'll work ok, but you'll be leaving some power on the table.  I'd go with something like a 600cfm street oriented carb (maybe like Holley's Street Avenger series).  As for the cam, it really depends on how you want the car to behave and where you want the power to be.  Since there's literally thousands of cam choices out there, I'll just say you should head over to Comp Cams' website and use their Camhelp service.  It's phenominally good for an online based service and they can hook you up with exactly what you need.  Just make sure to tell them the specs of your car and what you want from it.  Hope this helps.
