Volkswagen: Brake lights stay on, brake light switch, master cyl

1969 VW Bug. When I turn the ignition switch on, w/o starting the car, the brake lights come on. Brakes & pedal all work correctly.

Hi Alan,

It sounds like the brake light switch on the master cyl is sticking or there is a short in the wires.

First, unplug the wires from the master cyl and see if the lights go out.  If so, the switch is sticking and needs to either be freed or replaced.

If not, you have a cross in the wires somewhere, and will need to hunt it down.
