Ford Repair: MISS FIRE, legitimate charge, ford taurus

Question
My 1999 ford Taurus' miss fire check engine light came on. The car is run well and I did not here anything unusual from the engine.  Do I need to worry?

Answer
A check-engine light can mean something as minor as a loose gas cap, or as serious as a failing computer.  If it's running OK, it's probably something minor such as an emissions fault or, if you have the 24v duratec engine, possibly a stuck IMRC.  I would definitely call around to see if any local shops or parts stores can hook up their scan tool for free or cheap. Some places get $80 or more just to see why the light is on.  It's a legitimate charge, as the scan tool they're using may cost the shop over $10,000 plus updates, but definitely shop around for the best price.  If the light begins flashing, that means something more serious and you should get it fixed ASAP.  Hope this helps,
