Ford Repair: power steering pump on 1999 ford taurus v-6, power steering pump, ford taurus

Question
my pump suddenly made noise then became hard to steer,if i change the pump myself do i have to remove or replace the pulley and belt also?it looks very difficult ,all tucked away on the passenger side is this something that can be done easily or successfully? especially if one has only done a couple ?and that was on a ford 150!thank you for your time i will be waiting for your response

Answer
Yes, the pulley will have to be removed.  It requires a special tool to pull it off, and another to press it back on.  Check your local parts stores, they may loan the tools out for free or very little expense.  If you've done one before on an F150, this will be harder but I think you can handle it.  Make sure it's the pump before you replace it, if it's just a little low on fluid you'll have the same symptoms.
