Ford Repair: 1989 ford, ford f 150, mud truck

Question
I have a 1989 ford f.150 with a 1996 351windsor mud truck, i was out muddin and it started sputtering then cleared up and about 20 minutes later i started to pull into a mudhole and it cut off,i pulled it and saw that it was not getting fire to the motor so i replaced the dist.cap,r.button and coil pack but still no fire, could it be the computer or the distributer?

Answer
When water or mud is involved, anything can be the problem.  I'd like to know if the check-engine light stays on or turns off when you are cranking the engine over.  If yes, then the computer knows you are cranking the engine and the problem is confined to the ignition system.  If not, there could be a failed computer, bad hall effect sensor in the distributor, or any number of problems.  I'd try to get codes out of it with a scan tool if possible, that might tell you a lot also.  Hope this helps,
