Ford Repair: 1989 mustang gt 5.0L oil leak, crankshaft pulley, crankshaft seal

Question
Hello, I have what appears to be an oil leak coming out of the crankshaft pulley. It leaks only when the car is running. Making a mess of things inside the engine compartment. The harmonic balancer is clean and dry on the outside. The oil seems to be working its way out from inside the balancer and out the pulley as the engine spins.Whats going here and how can I fix it? Thanks

Answer
Hello Troy,
It does sound like the balancer is slinging oil from out of the front crankshaft seal. The seal needs to be replaced and a repair sleeve installed on the balancer for the seal to ride on, because usually it cuts a groove in the metal. When installing, make sure the seal is lubed well inside the lip with some white grease etc. so it doesn't burn the surface on startup. Shaun.
