Ford Repair: automatic to manual conversion, valve body kits, manual conversion

Question
I was reading about an earlier question you had answered about a gentleman who was wanting to convert a 96 t-bird i believe from automatic to manual, and you suggested switching the valve body to allow a clutchless manual in essence, is that something which is universally applicable to all transmissions and how is this accomplished? I am interested in converting an old 74 F100 custom from auto to manual.

Well...it's universal in the sense that it's possible with any automatic transmission (as far as I know).  To find out if it will work for your application, first you'll need to know what kind of transmission you have.  Since you're asking about a truck made in '74, I'm going to assume it's either got a C4 or a C6 (although you should still check).  Both of the popular C-series transmission (excluding the seldom used C5) have a variety of valve body kits that will allow you to switch to a reverse manual setup.  I'm sure Art Carr, Perfoemance Automatic, and many others have exactly what you're looking for.  You can also buy the valve body itself pre-assembled if you're a bit weary of messing with the factory valve body (I know I am).  Hope this helps.
