Ford Repair: 87 mustang engine, roller lifters, mustang engine

Question
I have 87 mustang 5.0 5 speed. I plan on building a motor for it while I drive it. I have a late 70's 302 I was wondering if it would work with my injection and roller cam?

Answer
Corey-

The injection will work fine since both engines are the same in that department.  The cam, however, will not work in a '70s 302 block.  The only real difference between 302s and 302HOs (aka 5.0L motors) is that the 5.0Ls share the same cam base circle as the 351W.  Basically it just means the 5.0L is wider and won't fit into a regular 302 (not without some decent modification, anyway).  Now you could buy a roller cam for a regular 302 (there aren't many, but they're out there and I'm sure you could get one custom ground) and use Ford Racing's roller conversion kit to use roller lifters.  Hope this helps.
