Ford Repair: Shift problem in 68 ford pickup, bolt torque specs, shift problem

Question
My buddy has an old 68'F-150. It has some issues like most things that old. I have taken care of most of them. It has a trans leak. I am going to change out the pan gaskets and replace the filter while I am in there. I was wondering how I change the shift points on it. It goes from first to second at about 2 miles an hour. With a new filter and some fresh fluid I think I'll have a cleaner slate to start with. I am more of an engine guy than a transmission guy. Any help would be appreciated. also if you have a torque for the trans pan bolts it would be helpful. Thanks, Luke

Answer
Luke-

Sorry, but I don't have any specs for things like transmission bolt torque specs going back nearly that far.  You didn't say what kind of transmission you're working with, but I'll assume it's either a C4 or a C6.  The only certain way to change the shift points in a transmission would be to modify the valve body, usually by way of a shift kit.  Not only will it modify shift points, but it will make the shifts quicker and harder.  Hope this helps.
