Ford Repair: 2000 Ford Focus, luck chris, prosses

Question
I have a 2000 Ford Focus Im having a problem with the ignition, the key will not turn at all. I have tried moving the steering wheel back and forth also tried jiggling the shifter but it still wont turn I had wondered if maybe somthing was jammed in the ignition cylinder it self  so I was going to pull it out however im having a hard time getting it out and the manual I have doesnt have any info on the removal. So I wonder if you might know what is causing this and if it needs to be replaced, How do I get the Ignition cylinder out?

Answer
Hi Crystal thanks for asking.
I actually see similar problems like this all the time. It definily will be an internal failure with the switch, Maby one of the pins are bent! or the locking tab may have broke. Is the key OK? if it excesivly worn then it wont turn either. If the key is Ok You really have no choice other than to tow it to a dealership in your area. The switch is going to have to be broken and drilled out. Only because the key has to be in the on position to remove the lock cylinder when the steering coluum is apart. If it wont turn it has to be removed a certain way, But dont worry no other damage will occur in this prosses if it done the right way, It should take about 1.5 - 2 hours to complete the job and about 75 dollars for the switch. For this Job I wouldnt take it to a local garage, It will end up going to the dealer anyway because it is a fairly difficult job.
good luck
