Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Chainsaw wont stay running?, adjustment screws, twist tie

Question
I bought a used chainsaw for $20 but it wont stay running. I replaced the fuel lines, cleaned the carb. , put fresh gas in.  When i put the cord it will start on idle then dies immediately. It wont start at all with the throttle in. Whats wrong i think its the mixture but when i cut back it wont start. What do you think?

Answer
If the chainsaw won't stay running it sounds like a restricted fuel passage.  To fix this remove the carburetor and disassemble it be sure to take out the little round plugs on the side of the carburetor.  Use a wire from a twist tie clean all air and fuel passages. purchase a carburetor kit new mounting gaskets and a fuel filter from your dealer and install. the kit should come with instructions.  Remount the carburetor using new gaskets.  The adjustment screws should be turned in until they  lightly seat and  then out 2 turns.

Start the chainsaw and make adjustments adjust idle circuit until it idles decently and adjust a high-speed in until it dies then turn the screw out until it falters and then set it halfway in between with the throttle in the wide-open position.  I hope this information has helped.
