Ford Repair: Engine ID, generation mustang, engine id

Question
Hi steve  I bought a engine to put in my 66 stang I was told it was a 302 but not for sure im having some troubles getting it bolted in because of oil pan clearance but not sure if it is because of the aftermarket adjustable motor mounts not being right although i believe they are because if the motor was any higher i dont believe i would have hood clearance anyways the code i got off the top side of the block is EODE-9425-AB since i know nothing about the engine anything you can tell me would be much appreciated.  thanks Dan

Answer
Dan-

Well...it's a 1980 block and while that's certainly not the most desirable year for a 302, you should be able to fit it into your '66 without a lot of trouble.  There is a slight possibility that what you have is a 252cid motor since that's what wound up in Mustangs in '80 and '81 until the 302 came back.  Most people forget this or just plain don't know so they could sell the motor as a 302 (although 302s were probably still used in other applications).  You might try finding some swap-specific motor mounts or maybe a swap-specific oil pan to get the job done easier.  I've never done a swap into a first generation Mustang so I'm not entirely sure.  Hope this helps.
