Classic/Antique Car Repair: 82 Corvette Oil Pressure Guage, oil pressure guage, gauge wire

Question
My Oil pressure guage has never worked and the sensor recently started leaking oil so I call the parts shop for a price on a new one, SURPRISE!!! (not the cost), Ive had the wrong one in there ever since some bozo decided he can fix it, and installed a single wire sensor. The correct one has 3 wires and I find that the bozo cut the center wire off the rubber 3 wire connector and used that as the only wire to the old sensor. So I go AHAAA!!! and install the correct 3 wire sensor, reconnect the center wire back onto the 3 wire rubber connector and think all is going to be well again, well it aint, still no pressure on the guage, or very little. Got a rebuilt engine in there so I know it aint the motor.....what am I missing here....Mike

Answer
Hope I can help, first if you have a differnt gauge in the dash I do not think it will work with a sensor that is not for the gauge , so that could be one thing, I never like  eletc. oil psi. gauges, cant you get a good gauge with a oil line this way you will get a good true reading, but if the gauge is for the sensor - is it hooked up in the back of the dash. as i know it is hard to get back there.if you still have trouble I would try to get the gauge out and take it out of the car and try to hook it up when you are working with it under the hood next to the sensor  and you can try direct as you could also have a short giving you a faulty reading. the sensor must be correct for that gauge or it will not work . did you look up the wireing diagram in a chevy tm book.i hope I could help you in some way if I think of anything else I will e-mail  U .also if i'am not mistaken you must have the correct gauge wire also or it will not work.or wrong reading also.
Thanks
