Ford Repair: 1988 Crown Victoria 5.0 EFI, crown vic, coverters

Question
I have a Crown Vic 1988 5.0.   The car started missing and power went to nothing.  The left duel exhaust pipe got red hot and melted undercoating.  their are no catalytic coverters on the car.  Replaced fuel pump.  Still will idle good and can pess down accelation in park with no problem.  When going forward and giving it gas it will choke down and die. sparkplug arch seems a little weak and is diffcult to start but it will start and engine appears to run smooth untill power on the engine is called for and then dies.  Have any ideas?

Roger-

Any time an exhaust part gets that hot you're looking at an engine running really lean.  It generally means either one cylinder on the side or the whole bank of cylinders isn't getting or using enough fuel.  I'd pull the plugs on that side of the engine (I'm not sure if you mean "left" while looking at the car from the front or rear, but I assume you mean the driver's side) and check for any discoloration on or around the tips of the plugs.  If they're all the same, compare them with one or two plugs from the other side of the engine.  The problem could be a lot of things and some of them depend on whether the '88 Vics used sequential or batch fire EFI (fancy names for using all the injectors on one side all at once or individually).  It could be a clogged injector(s), a sensor problem, a problem with the regulator, or even a timing problem.  Hope this helps.
