Ford Repair: Engine number, merkur xr4ti, ford part numbers

Question
I purchased an 1986 merkur xr4ti. It shares the 2.3 turbo 4 with the thunderbirf turbocoupe and mustang svo. I know it is not the original engine. It doesn't seem to have a fitting in the block for the oil return line, but someone has tapped into the oil pan for a return line. (I bought it as a project car without a turbo or exhaust manifold) I would like to find out anything I can about the block/engine in the car. The block has a casting on pass side of E27E-6015-AA, a serial number (pass side) of GUA66253 (I think-it's a little rough). Anything you can tell me this motor would be helpful.

Answer
Mark-

Are you sure the first 4 digits aren't something like "E2TE" rather than "E27E"?  Ford part numbers generally start with letter-number-letter-letter.  If it is E2TE, then it likely came from an '82 truck of some kind (for a 2.3L motor it'd have to be a small truck for sure).  The '82 is for sure...not totally sure about the rest.  If I were you I'd seriously consider just picking up a used SVO motor.  They tend to have a bit more power than other turbo 2.3L motors and can be had for pretty cheap...even complete with the turbo.  Hope this helps.
