Ford Repair: Changing oil on transmission, pan gasket, powerflush

Question
I have a Ford Explorer 2004, My husband wants to change the transmission oil his self. He was a mechanic for 15 years.  Is this a hard job to do, and how do you do it.

Answer
Shawn-

If he just wants to change out the fluid in the pan, it's pretty much the same as any other car.  Drop the pan, drain the fluid, replace the filter and pan gasket, bolt it back up, and refill it.  If he's looking to do a total fluid change, that's a lot more involved.  In that case I'd say just take it to a shop that does a powerflush.  It's a little more expensive, but a lot more thorough, much faster, and MUCH less frustrating.  Hope this helps.
