Ford Repair: Odmeter malfunction, timken bearings, backyard mechanics

Question
I have a 1994 Ford  Bronco full size and love the truck. I bought it in 1996 as the second owner from a ford dealer in the North Bay but was very upset after learning that the truck was in a serious accident. I have had continuous problems with the right front brake system wearing out three times as fast as the left side. I have had 4 new disks and brakes installed and still having the same problems. today I spent over $800.00 in new parts ie: Cyro Disks, HD brakes, Timken Bearings and seals and hopefully it will correct that wobbling in the right side when I touch the brakes. Ford Dealers are just as bad as some outrageous backyard mechanics when it comes to telling the truth, but maybe this time it will work. Any suggestions?

The second problem is that four years ago while I was in L.A. the odometer started jumping around. I went to a auto store and they sold me a odometer cable and I could not find where the cable would connect until I researched my truck and found that it does not use a typical odometer cable but is electronic instead. I go back to yet another Napa store and ask for a sender replacement and the location where the electronic unit is located only to be told they don't know!!!!

Now the odometer has stopped working all together and all I want to do to repair it, any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Larry
sorry to hear you are having so many problems with this truck. Since this vehicle has been in a seriouse accident i would be considering a bent part in the front end somewhere. possibles a bent spindle, that will sure give a wobble. but i dont really see it wearing the brakes quicker though. If the brakes are wearing quick i would look into a calliper that is starting to seize, seized sliders or pins for the calliper. Has any body checked all the bushings in the front? i am sure theses were bad fr trailing arm bushing and that sometimes gave a bit of a wobble when braking. another suggestion would be to try to take it for an alignment, when on the machine it should detect a bad part like the spindle, if the spindle is no good it will fail the run out compensation part of the alingment, if any bushings are gone, when adjusting it will immidiatly be noticed. As far as te speedo goes, it sounds like the gear on the end of the sensor is damaged, usualy they strip and sheer off slowly thats why it was being jumpy. This is typical because the gear is made of plastic. unfortunatly this is a dealer only item and i dont think they are very expensive.
good luck
