Ford Repair: 2000 Ford Ranger Check Engine Light...EGR, model fords, dpfe sensor

Question
Hello. I recently had my check engine light come on. I took it to a local AUTOZONE and the computer read EGR FLOW INSUFFICIENT. I purchased an EGR valve and put it in and disconntected the battery and reconnected the batery to hopefully reset something and the check engine light is still coming on. I was also told that the dpfe sensor could be bad (digital pressure feedback). Thank you in advance for your advice and hopefully this isn't costly.

Answer
Please, next time tell me the code. There are a number of EGR related codes, all with different diagnosis. Autozone will sell you parts until you are broke.

I cannot remember the last time I replaced an EGR valve on a Ford, probably 20 years ago. The most common problem on late model Fords is the DPFE sensor. Proper diagnosis is needed to determine this for sure, not just a code or what autozone tells you. You most likely had a P0401, which 90% of the time is the sensor.
