Ford Repair: bounce, bump in the road, pot hole

Question
1998 f150 v8 4x4 130000 miles new tires. shimmy or vibration while driving at speeds below 50 mph do not feel it in the wheel, just overall. when I hit a pot hole I actually get a bounce that will not stop until I put the brakes on and slow down I think it is more pronounced on the drivers side. also get that bounce after a very sharp ( 180 degree ) turn, but must hit a bump in the road.  Any suggestions?? I have thought about changing the shocks but want to do whatever will correct the problem. thanks.... Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,
If the shocks have never been changed, replaced them. Check your driveshaft and joints for looseness and make sure the driveshaft hasn't been damaged. If all OK, have your mechanic check the front suspension for loose parts and have him align it. If it still bounces you may need to install a "steering stabilizer shock" kit. GOOD LUCK!!
