Ford Repair: 1994 TBird engine ping, air fuel mixture, lean air

Question
1994 Thunderbird 4.6L V8 96k miles on it.  Engine pings under hard acceleration.  EGR valve?  Switch to higher octane fuel?  Also overdrive switch on gear shifter doesn't work.  Worth repairing or too costly?

Answer
Engine ping can be caused by many things. Worn spark plugs, inop egr, bad fuel, lean air/fuel ,mixture. Diagnosis will help determine which is the cause. I would not do any egr repair  unless  you find egr codes. Most Fords have an octane bar that can be removed, retards the timing a bit to prevent ping.

I suggest you have the codes checked and go from there.
