Ford Repair: 1999 Taurus Climate Control, ford taurus, 1999 ford taurus

Question
Dennis

I have a 1999 Ford Taurus SES with EATC.  The car has recently started to automatically switch back to the defrost setting - no matter what setting you push.  I ran the self test and it showed 888, so the electronics seem to be OK.  Can you help with any suggestions on what to try next, or should I leave it to a pro?

Answer
Ford uses vacuum to operate the different motors that control the air flow direction. Defrost is the default position, which tells us you are losing vacuum somewhere. Check the black vacuum line from the engine, from there it's a matter of checking each line and the motors for leaks.
