Ford Repair: alternator, ford taurus, 2004 ford taurus

Question
I have pulled the old alternator but can't get the belt off.  I have a 2004 Ford Taurus v-6 3.2.  It is to tight, what do I need to do to take it off and replace the new alternator?

Answer
One of the small pulleys that the belt rides on is a belt tensioner, you have to relieve the tension before removing the belt. Many newer cars have a belt diagram under the hood, if you can find that decal it should tell you what position the tensioner is on the motor.
