Ford Repair: spark plugs, spark plug wires, high mileage

Question
real stupid but needed questions I just purchased a 2001 ford escape 4 wheel drive XLT and I was going to change out the spark plugs for it but was unable to locate them in my truck so where the heck are they?

Answer
Not real stupid at all. I had a problem vehicle at work today, and after the boss straighten out my problem I felt pretty stupid too. ALl the training classes the first thing the instructors tell everyone to do is check the basics. So don't feel stupid, it can happen to anyone.

If you have the 2.0 motor, follow the spark plug wires, the spark plugs are in the middle of the cylinder head on top.

Your question, however leads me to believe you have the V-6 motor, which uses a coil-on-plug system. Same as the four, on top of the head, except you will need to remove each coil to access the spark plugs.

May I ask why you are replacing the plugs? Those should be double platinum and last 100,000 miles. It's kinda like if it ain't broke don't fix it.

If you want to do it for maintainence, that's ok, but isn't needed unless it is high mileage. One other thing, use Motorcraft if possible, Autolite as an option. `DO NOT use Bosch, for some reason they create a lot of problems in Fords.
