Ford Repair: fuel problem, 1988 ford festiva, electric fuel pump

Question
Hello, I have a 1988 Ford Festiva L that is carburetored NOT fuel injection that I have been having trouble with for last couple of months. I will try to explain my problem the best I can, along with what I have tried to do to correct to the problem so far.

When the car is running it will idle fine but when I step on the pedal to give it gas it bogs down and seems like It is choking its self out and wont take the gas. And if I try to drive it this way it is like a bucking bronco. It doesn’t do it all of the time it is sporadic some days it will run perfectly fine and other times it will not. I think the carburetor is a 2 barrel 1.3 litter do they make a rebuild kit for this ?

Things we did to try to fix it:
I replaced the fuel pump twice.
Hollowed out the catalytic converter thinking it was clogged.
Put an electric fuel pump in.
Checked the fuel filter it looked clean. So didn’t replace
Put a screwdriver down in the carburetor, to keep the choke open. Thinking it was sticking

Thanks, Jason

Answer
I have no history with Festiva, there just weren't many produced. The problem you describe could be several things. Might be a small bit of debris in the carburetor that floats around and sometimes gets stuck where it can block fuel flow. Might be an ignition problem, since it is intermittent. Might be anything in the ignition secondary arcing to ground causing a misfire.

I don't do parts questions.
