Ford Repair: Front end & brakes, ball joints, joan mcdonald

Question
1999F250 Diesel 4W drive. I have had no problem with 4W drive or pulling to either side.  I took it to the dealership for brakes all around - with rotor replacement and ball joints.  They replaced one side ball joints, all brakes and pads and rotors.  Now it pulls to the right, even after 3 trips to the dealer and the 4W will not engage without getting out to manually lock hubs.  They told me the pulling was because one sides ball joints were not replaced(I had asked them to).  Alignment is good and truck runs straight.  Pulling is only when braking. My limited experience tells me they're not telling it right.  If it only pulls when braking, isn't it in the brakes, not ball joints?  Of course they always want more money.  They admitted to damaging the
calipers themselves.  Most of us women only know a little about these things.  If the 4W worked always, every time (I use it every day) Didn't they damage something else?  If so, what?  Can you advise before I take it back? Joan McDonald

Answer
Joan,
Nomally when you replace the ball joints they should replace both sides. And I always reccommend a front end alignment when this is done. Also, if they replaced the brakes like they said it shouldnt pull. So, to me they just fixed, what they saw and decided to forget the rest. They also probally didnt put together the front end back together right, the 4 wheel drive should lock when you engage it from inside the vehicle. They took you for a ride, on repairs, sorry to say... Ty
