Ford Repair: Engine Casting Numbers, crown victoria police interceptor, 351 windsor

Question
Hello, I read elsewhere that you can help with casting numbers for fords, so I was wondering if you could help clear up something for me.

I recently purchased a 351 windsor to drop into my 87 Ranger, though I am completely uncertain as to the vehicle it came from. The casting code is E9AE-6015-BA21, which tells me it came from 1989 and from a car.

Though I am uncertain of the years that the 351 was offered in cars. The only one that I can think of off hand is the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor Package, but I highly doubt I picked one of those up.

If you have any idea on what models the 351 was offered in I'd be appreciated. Thanks for your time,

Drew

Answer
Drew-

Well...for that year the Crown Vics are the only ones that jump out at me as well.  I guess it's possible they came out of a full size Lincoln, but my knowledge of what engines went into Lincolns and when is not the best.  I suppose it's possible that it came from a truck, but I really doubt it.  It's not all too uncommon to find motors that bare numbers from other car lines in another model, but truck/car crossovers are pretty unusual.  In any event...trust me, by the late 80's the term "police interceptor" didn't mean much.  Really it was more about suspension tweaks than power upgrades. It might have 10 or 20hp over a regular 351...but it's nothing to write home about.  Hope this helps.
