Ford Repair: mercury sable dpfe sensor, dpfe sensor, mercury sable

Question
hi.   2 or 3 times over the last couple of weeks when i start the car, the engine dosen't turn over, after a couple of minutes it does start. I had a local service station put it on the diagnostic machine and i didn't see the code # but they said it was the dpfe sensor and it needs to be replaced. my car is a 2002 mercury sable. should i have the sensor disabled or replaced? they want to charge $148.00 to replace it. The engine light did come on.    thank you

Answer
The engine not turning over cannot be caused by the DPFE sensor. Check with your local Ford dealer, there was a campaign related to the DPFE sensor, you may still be eligible. However, they will have to see a code when they test it or nothing will be replaced.

Your vehicle has a PATS anti-theft system that may disable the starter system. Could also be a starter or battery problem.

The DPFE should not be disabled or disconnected as it may affect emissions and drive symptoms, also will keep the CEL on.
