My 1994 Ford Tempo runs great, the problem is a loud knocking noice when the car is idling. When you push the accelorator it sounds fine. It sounds like it might be coming from somewhere in the drive belt area (crankshaft) but I'm not sure. None of the pulleys look loose so I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Could be a crankshaft bearing or a bad connecting rod. I would have it looked at, its hard to say without listening to it myself.. Thanks......

Answer
Im not saying for sure if thats the problem or not, just taking a quess here. You might also have a bad pully that could be making the noise.. If its a connecting rod problem or crankshaft bearing then yes, your engine will need to be rebuilt or replaced.. Check with your nearest auto zone,, sometimes they will use a special tool to listen to the noise.. I dont think they will charge you for it.. Thanks,,
