Ford Repair: 1980 Ford F150, ford f150 supercab, accurate thanks

Question
I just bought this truck (1980 Ford F150 Supercab w/8' bed, V8 351 Cleveland) - don't have all the info on it that I would like - and I have been having a problem with it not wanting to stay running. I read some of the older questions, and I found a few that seem to be having the same problem, and the answers all pointed to vapor lock. I was afraid of that, and I was wondering if there is a way to make that problem stop. The problem is getting progressively worse. There also seems to be a problem with overheating - the thermostat was changed out (192 to a 160). Summer is coming, and I live at high altitude. I need a reliable vehicle, and the random progression of this vapor lock problem (if that's what it is) is making this vehicle unreliable - it dies when I go from park into reverse, or from reverse into drive. It also loses power and dies on me while driving - traffic or no traffic. The electrical fuel pump was changed a week and a half ago (the mechanical fuel pump had been disabled by a previous owner), and all the fuel lines wre replaced. The air filter was replaced, the carb was inspected and found to be functioning properly. Also flushed the radiator. This truck runs most awesomely, when it decides to run, and I just wish I could afford to run a diagnostic on it to see exactly what the problem is. AutoZone can't use their diagnostic machine because the truck is too old. Any ideas for  solutions? Also - what exactly is the mechanical limit for this truck? Oh - the odometer read 65 thou & change for mileage when I bought it, and the guy I bought it from said that the owner before him told him that the odometer had not flipped. Personally, I find it hard to believe that a truck this old has only 65 & change on it. It looks like it used to be someone's work truck. How can I tell if this mileage is accurate? Thanks for all your help - sorry for the whining - I'm just a girl who needs her truck to work.

Answer
First of all yes the truck is old, and its hard to tell if the mileage has been changed. I quess they can change the mileage somehow.. As for the vapor lock, maybe you could run the fuel lines, to a different area, so they stay cool from the engine. You could also install a inline fuel filter this may help also.. Hope tis someone helps ..
