Ford Repair: Ford Taurus, temp guage, ford taurus

I have a 97 ford taurus 3.0 v6 single over head cam. I was driving down the interstate and my car started to over heat and before i could pull over the side of the road it started to cool down then not even a min. later it started loseing power and i pushed the gas all the way in and then a couple seconds later it shut off i got it home replaced the water pump fuel filter spark plugs and it has over half a take of gas. When i try to start it, it wont turn over. I herd it could be i cracked a head, or may be a senor, but i dont know i was hopeing you could maybe help me out in the bind im in thanks

Sounds like you need to have this checked out by a pro, leak tested, etc. You may have overheated the engine to the point it blew a gasket or cracked a head. I have no way of telling you what happened over the internet. This engine had cooling problems to begin with, and the excess heat could have damaged sensors or something else to prevent it from starting.

Once an engine loses it's coolant, the temp guage will go down as there is no coolant in contact with the sensor. I don't wish to predict dire problems, but you may have a case more severe than you can handle at home. If it won't turn over, coolant could be in one or more cylinders causing a hydrolock condition.
