Ford Repair: 95 Explorer Ltd. headlamp, fog lamps, low beams

Question
My automatic headlights will only work when I put the light switch in 'high beam' position.  If I take it off, the lights go off.  Also, the fog lamps won't come on at all.  This all started at the same time.

Answer
Lisa, your problem is likely due to an open circuit in the multifunction switch, which controls the turn signals, wipers, and dimming of the headlamps.
Your fog lamps only work when on low beam, so naturally they do not work if the low beams don't work.
The switch is not difficult to replace with the proper tools and knowledge, but would be difficult for the average person.  I would expect to pay about $50 - 90 labor at an independant shop, or about $60 - 95 labor at a dealer, plus the price of the part which could be $100 or more.
Hope this helps...
Happy New Year!
