Ford Repair: firewall clutch problems, heavy duty clutch, cable sheath

Question
On my 1990 Mustang 5.0L, is there a fix for the problem of having torn up the firewall from flexing under clutch pedal strain?
Do I have to put in some kind of plate for the support it needs? The car a had heavy duty clutch with pressure plate that made pedal effort high and small amount of range of motion. The chassis has seen 210,000 miles but has full length tube subframe connectors, strut tower brace and tubular k-member. It was a daily driver, except on weekends had seen some road-course miles.
The hole in the firewall where the clutch cable sheath head attaches has some very small cracks, but there is a larger crack, 3 or 4 inches, in a separate area. All this combined to make clutch operation almost impossible, so the car is on jack-stands. Thanks

Brian-

That's a tricky one.  If it were my car, I'd have a shop that has some decent fabricating skills patch the hole with a 1/4" thick piece of steel just big enough to cover the damage.  You might also want to think about an adjustable quadrant like the ones Steeda or BBK (to name a couple) sell.  It makes it much easier when you've got an upgraded clutch and pressure plate.  Hope this helps.
