Ford Repair: Ford ignition coil, ford ignition coil, ford cargo

Question

Would you know anything about changing an ignition coil on a 2003 Ford Cargo Van E-250. 5.4EFI, V-8 engine.

My husband was going to try an do it himself, today if possible and needed instructions. Would you be able to give him step by step instructions?

Answer
Trudy-

It's really pretty simple.  First of all and most importantly, disconnect the battery.  There's nothing quite as uncomfortable as a 40,000 volt jolt from a coil because you forgot to disconnect the battery (trust me on that one).  Then it's really just a matter of removing it and keeping track of the wires and where they go.  I like to take the new coil and have it right there so once I disconnect a wire I can put it on the new coil right away before I forget where it went.  This is especially important with a coil-on-plug setup.  As soon as all of the wires are hooked up, just bolt it back into it's original position and you should be good to go.  Hope this helps.
