Ford Repair: Ford AOD Transmission, ford aod transmission, holley carbs

Question
Hi Steve, I have a 91 Ford 5.0 HO with an AOD transmission.  I would like to do away with the computer and the fuel injection.  Do you know if this can be done?  Is there a way to manually operate the overdrive and torque convertor lockup using switches instead of the computer?

Any advice would be appreciated!  Thanks.
Paul

Answer
Paul-

If you got a seperate email saying something about me not answering this, please disregard...I clicked the wrong button.  As for your question, it's a bit tricky, but it can be done.  It depends on the model of car you have.  Some cars in '91 with the 5.0L had the AODE (usually luxury cars and larger Ford models) which is computer controlled.  Other cars like the Mustang had the basic AOD without computer control.  For a Mustang or similar car with an AOD you'll have to worry about the TV linkage.  These tend not to work well with carbs (sometimes they can be jerry rigged, but usually not).  A company called Sacramento Mustang used to sell a TV linkage adapter for Holley carbs for around $100...but I haven't checked in quite a while so I can't say if they still even sell it or are even still in business.  If you have a computer controlled AODE, check out Baumann Engineering's TCS (or transmission control system).  It's a bit more complex and expensive as well as requiring a computer to input programming, but it had the luxury of being fully adjustable.  Either way the job is quite do-able...it'll just take a little tinkering and some extra parts.  Hope this helps.
