Ford Repair: ford taurus ac compressor, ford taurus, ac unit

Question
I have a 98 Ford Taurus that the ac compressor has seized up on. Is it possible to get a serpentine belt the right size that will bypass the ac unit. Is it safe to do that? Are there any other options other than replacing the compressor. I have recently had to put $1300.00 into the car and another $850.00 (according to the mechanic) isn't in my budget.

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
No there isn't a way of by-passing the AC unit. I would suggest that you take a look at other garages for some one who will give you a different option. Replace the pulley on the compressor (IF that is what is damaged) Not replacing the whole compressor.
