Ford Repair: 95 Taurus 4-door sedan speedometer, gear set, instrument cluster

Question
What do I need to do to fix it?  When you say the guage head, are you referring to the speedometer or a part of the cable?  How do I lubricate the cable?  Thank you for your help.

The speedometer in my 95' Taurus jumps all over the place when traveling over 60 miles an hour and makes the most obnoxous clicking noise.  Under 60 miles an hour it works fine.  In all cases the odometer seems to rotate correctly. Why does it do this, how difficult is this to repair and what do I need to do?  Is there a quick fix?

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
It sounds like either the gear set in the gauge head is bad or the cable needs lubrication.

Hello and thanks for the reply...I'll try to help.
The cable needs to be lubricated.......that is IF there is a cable to lubricate.......some use an electronic feed for the instrument cluster. You should be able to look in the engine compartment and see if there is a cable. disconnect is and lubricate it with PB Blaster or even cooking oil....only a small amount.
