Ford Repair: ABS, abs light, abs system

we have a 2002 Explorer and yesterday, the "ABS" light came on; it went off but finally after three hours it remained on steadily.
What are the symptoms here and is this something a failry competent do-it-yourselfer can repair?

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
The ABS light coming on and staying on is an indication that there is a electrical problem with the ABS system. The computer shuts the ABS system down and you now have "normal" brakes with out ABS assist.
You need to find out what code(s) are stored in the computer and make the correct repair(s).
