Ford Repair: Mercury Mystique transmission, mercury mystique, mechanic

Erik:  My daughter has a 1997 Mercury Mystique with 125K.  She does a lot of city driving in and around LA.  Recently she has experienced the transmission "slipping" and "trying to shift but not being able to."  The problem is episodic and there appears to be no apparent set of circumstances that trigger the symptoms.  She left it with her regular mechanic for several days, but it didn't do it while he had it.  Any suggestions?

I would suggest that you have the transmission serviced. Drop the pan and see if there is any material in it. This would also be a good time to have the mechanic check the computer system for fault codes.
