Thanks for rasponding to my question.
The plastic handle just snaps off right where it is bolted onto the spring loaded mechanism that's behind the door panel. I have replaced it several times already and it's getting a little frustrating. It would be nice if someone made a metal replacement handle.

I've looked over the TSB's and Recalls that Ford has, no luck there. I wish there was, that way you would have some luck with Ford. In any event, that only thing I can say is replace it. What you might want to try is looking at newer model years(at a junk yard) to see IF a newer handle might work (being the same functional design) and maybe they have updated it.
