Ford Repair: REMOVAL OF INSIDE CLIP ON U/JOINT, mustang 289, u bolts

Question
Hi Erilk

I own a 1966 Ford Mustang 289 cid. I never removed a Universal Joint before (front and rear)

BEFORE I START THIS JOB.

I looked under the car and seen that the joint has INSIDE CLIPS holding the U/Joint in place.

After I remove the rear U bolts how do I remove those darn inside clips?

From what I've been reading I'm suppose to MARK the front and rear U/Joints and the Yokes CORRECT?

But why should I do that Erilk ?

THANK YOU ERILK.
You've help me in the pass and were GREAT ! ! !

GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
To remove the internal clips....place the drive shaft in a vice, and use a chisel or punch to remove them. The reason you are marking the yokes is because the shaft it self is balanced and they want to make sure you put it back in the correct position so you don't have a vibration.
