Ford Repair: 1992 Ford Explorer, screw clamps, seal gasket

Question
What is the best way to change a fuel pump in a 1992 Ford Explorer.    Do you have step by step procedures for it?
Thanks for you help

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.

Drain fuel from fuel tank.
Remove shield, skid plate and fuel tank front strap.
Support tank and remove bolt from fuel tank rear strap.
Loosen screw clamps from fill pipe and vent pipe and remove from tank.
Lower fuel tank.
Remove vapor valve and fuel line connectors from sender unit and vapor valves.
Disconnect fuel sender and fuel pump connector from rear of tank.

Remove fuel tank to bench.
Remove any dirt that has accumulated around the fuel pump attaching flange so that it will not enter the fuel tank during procedures.
Turn the fuel pump locking ring counterclockwise with the fuel tank lock ring wrench tool and remove locking ring.
Remove the fuel pump and bracket assembly.
Remove seal gasket and discard.
If necessary, disconnect spade connector and remove two screws and fuel sending unit.

Hope this helps,
Erik
