Ford Repair: Brake light problem, ford contour, light bulbs

Question
I have a 1996 Ford Contour.  My main brake lights aren't working while the third light does light up.  The turn signals, running lights and hazard lights work fine.

I've checked fuses and the switches for the brake lights.  All are fine.

Another problem has developed since the switches were removed and checked yesterday.  This morning there's a sound as if the brakes are slightly engaged constantly.  Can this be from the switches reinstalled incorrectly?

Thanks,
Kathy

Answer
Hi Kathy,
If the brake light bulbs are OK, you may need to replsce the MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH . It's the switch connected with the turn signal.
On the other problem, sounds like you may need a brake job. Have your mechanic check it out. Has nothing to do with the switches.
