Ford Repair: 4X4 Switches, 4x4 system, electrical problem

Question
Hi, I have a 92 Exporer XLT and the selector switch for low or high four wheel drive does not work. I doubt that there is a mechanical problem because the 4x4 system has only been used a few times and when it was used there were no bad noises or anything. Could this be an electrical problem with a selenoid?

Thanks,

Zak

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I would think it is an electrical problem. One that should be easy for you to fix and save money on. You'll need to remove the back side of the 4x4 drive motor.......take an eraser from a yellow #2 pencil and erase the carbon tracking in side the motor on the disc.
The only "special tool" you'll need is a tamper proof torx bit.
Hope this helps,
Erik
