Ford Repair: 1999 FORD WINSTAR AIR FILTER, 1999 ford winstar, service engine soon light

HI ERIK. I HAVE A 1999 FORD WINSTAR VAN WITH A V-6 ENGINE. I HAS STARTED RUNNING VERY ROUGH, AND THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT HAS COME ON. I HAVE HAD THE OIL CHANGED EVERY 3,000 MILES FROM THE TIME I BOUGHT THE VAN. IT HAS APPROX. 70,000 MILES ON IT, AND THE SERVICE PERSON TOLD ME I NEED TO REPLACE THE AIR FILTER. HOW DO I GO ABOUT DOING THIS, AND WOULD THAT POSS. MAKE THE VAN RUN ROUGH/LIGHT COME ON. IF NOT, WHAT DO YOU THINK IT COULD BE? THANKS, FOR YOU HELP, ANTHONY.

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
Unless the air filter is completely clogged and restricting the air flow....it's not going to make your engine run rough.
I would look in to the tune up condition of the engine and go from there.
