Ford Repair: Caliper carrige removal on 98 Windstar, disc brake caliper, disc brake rotor

Question
Would you happen to know what size and category ratchet attachment(i.e. Torque) I will need to remove the caliper carriage on my 1998 Ford Windstar?  I need to replace the front Brakes and want to insure I have what I need to get the job done.

Thank You
Tracy

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.

REMOVAL

Raise vehicle on hoist.
Remove wheel and tire assembly from front disc brake rotor mounting face. Be careful to avoid damage or interference with caliper bleeder screw and front disc brake rotor shield.
CAUTION: Handle front disc brake rotor and disc brake caliper in such a way as to prevent deformation of rotor, and nicking, scratching or contamination of brake lining/rotor surfaces.

Remove caliper anchor bracket bolts. Position disc brake caliper/ front disc brake caliper anchor plate assembly out of the way and support it with a length of wire to avoid damaging the disc brake caliper and front brake hose.
Remove front disc brake rotor from front wheel hub and spindle by pulling it off the hub studs.
NOTE: If excessive force must be used during front disc brake rotor removal, the front disc brake rotor should be checked for lateral runout prior to installation.

If additional force is required to remove front disc brake rotor, apply Rust Penetrant and Inhibitor F2AZ-19A501-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M99C56-A on front and rear rotor/hub mating surfaces. First, strike front disc brake rotor between studs with a plastic hammer. If this does not work, attach 2-3 Jaw Puller D80L-1013-A or equivalent and remove front disc brake rotor.
INSTALLATION

Do not machine, cut or true up NEW front disc brake rotor or rear disc brake rotor prior to installation on vehicle. Making a light cut on a new front disc brake rotor or rear disc brake rotor may cause excessive runout and result in brake shudder several thousand miles later.

CAUTION: Failure to clean rust and foreign material from rotor and hub mounting faces when installing new or old rotors will result in high rotor lateral runout, which will speed up the development of brake roughness/shudder/vibration.

If front disc brake rotor is being replaced, remove protective coating from new front disc brake rotor with Metal Brake Parts Cleaner F3AZ-19579-SA or equivalent. If original front disc brake rotor is being installed, make sure rotor braking and mounting surfaces are clean.
Apply a small amount of Silicone Dielectric Compound D7AZ-19A331-A meeting Ford specification ESE-M1C171-A or equivalent to pilot diameter of front disc brake rotor.
Install front disc brake rotor on front wheel hub and spindle.
Install disc brake caliper/front disc brake caliper anchor plate assembly on front disc brake rotor. Install and tighten anchor bracket bolts to 88-118 Nm (65-87 ft. lbs.).
Install wheel and tire assembly to front disc brake rotor mounting face. Tighten lug nut to 113-153 Nm (83-112 ft. lbs.).
CAUTION: Failure to tighten wheel hub bolt nuts with a torque wrench in star pattern may result in high rotor runout, which will speed up the development of brake roughness, shudder and vibration.

Lower vehicle.
Pump brake pedal prior to moving vehicle to position brake linings.
Road test vehicle.

Hope this helps,
Erik
