Ford Repair: check engine light, diagnostic work, ford ranger

hi, i have a 2000 ford ranger v6 3.0 with the check engine light on. stanard trans, i took it to auto zone, they put a computer on it and told me the  egr was bad so i bought one installed it they reset the computer but the check engine light came back on.  any ideas  thanks david

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
Yes, I have several ideas......first, STOP going to autozone for diagnostic work. All they do is pull a code out of your ECM and tell you to replace the part.........with out pin point testing the system.
Second, bite the bullet and bring your vehicle to a garage and have them look in to the cause of the check engine light being on.
